The Most Nutrient Dense Food on the Planet is also AFFORDABLE

Can you guess what it is?

Pound for pound, dollar for dollar, the #1 most nutrient dense food is LIVER!

If there was ever a superfood, this is it. If only liver received the media attention as kale and acai bowls! Scroll down for tips on integrating this ultimate superfood into your diet.

What makes liver even more special is its price. It’s much cheaper than muscle meats, making it an excellent choice if you’re looking to eat healthy and save money. Throughout history, liver has been prized by many cultures with good reason.

According to the Weston A Price Foundation,

  • Liver contains the most concentrated source of Vitamin A on the planet

  • Liver is the best source of copper

  • Liver contains every one of the 8 B vitamins, and is especially high in vitamin B12

  • Liver is one of the best sources of folic acid

  • Liver provides a great source of usable iron

  • Liver is high in zinc and chromium

  • AND you only need one bite per week to reap its nutritional benefits!

Check out this graphic from Chris Kresser, a world renowned expert in functional medicine and a New York Time’s best-selling author, comparing the nutrient content of liver to red meat, carrots, and apples.

Can you spot the clear nutritional winner? Pay close attention to the astonishingly high amounts of Vitamin A, Folate, and Vitamins B12, even compared to red meat. Highlighted in green is the food highest in each nutrient category, followed by yellow, and the lowest in red.

A common misconception is that liver stores toxins, but in fact the liver neutralizes toxins. Toxins are stored in fatty tissues and the nervous system. What the liver does store is all of the nutrients listed above.

Give liver a try but remember to prioritize quality. Choose organic livers from pastured animals, including beef, lamb, chicken, and turkey.

If you didn’t grow up eating liver, it is worth checking out.  Some love it smothered with bacon and onions.  Everybody has different taste buds so put yours to the test. This could be your new favorite superfood!

Try these tips to get started. Which option appeals most to you?

2. Make Liver Pills

If you don’t like the taste of liver but still want the benefit, this is your best bet. There are two ways to make liver pills. They follow the same process, just different order. No matter what, always start with high-quality, organic liver.

Option 1: Place liver in the freezer for 2 weeks, to kill any bacteria. Then, thaw slightly and cut into very small, swallowable, pill-sized pieces. Place each pill on a tray, freeze until solid, then place into a sealable container, and put back in the freezer.

Option 2: Cut fresh liver into very small, swallowable, pill-sized pieces. Place each pill on a tray and place try in freezer. Freeze for 2 weeks, to kill any bacteria. Then, place pills in a sealable container, and place back in the freezer.

If you are already taking medication or supplements, this could be added to your daily routine. If you aren’t taking medication or supplements, when would be the best time during your day for you to take this liver pill?

3. Make Liver Ice Cubes

Similar to making your own liver pills, if you don’t like the taste of liver, this may be a great option for you. Start by food processing or blending fresh liver. Then fill an ice cube tray with liver and let it sit in the freezer for 2 weeks, to kill any bacteria. Then add to soups, ground beef, or any dish, really! You’ll hardly notice it’s there.

4. Order from Nose to Tail

Check out Nose to Tail, a meat subscription delivery-service company that specializes in the highest quality muscle and organ meats from cows, buffalo, chicken, lamb, and pigs. All of their meat is hormone and antibiotic free, non-GMO, free range, grass-finished and cage free.
